Expanding Blogging Horizons
What do you think about when you think about going beyond blogging or expanding your horizons? Is it a redesign of your blog? Have you branched out into freelance writing or even published a novel of your very own? Or, have you moved into a different venue like podcasts or vlogging? This is the day to tell us about how you have expanded on blogging in your own unique way.
Response to Expanding Blogging Horizons:
I think going "beyond and expanding" your blogging horizon can be taken many different ways. For example, it CAN mean a redesign of your blog. If you haven't made a banner, or you feel it's too old, REDESIGN. If it's what you seek, you should TRY. There is always going to be trial and error in your blogging life! Going beyond can be your genre of books, talking to AUTHORS AND PUBLISHERS, and so much more! You never know unless you try. Such a cliche quote, but it's true. I've never really considered publishing any of my works other than reviews. I have a yet, undeveloped and still building blogging life. I wish I was a vlogger or I branched out in other venues, but I can't get myself to find the time. I can definitely say I have expanded from the beginning of my blogging life. I have talked to many popular bloggers and befriend them, I've been reading manga (which I never read!!), and I've been talking to publishers. It's better to think of the pros of everything other than the cons.
Novellas/Short Stories
Now it is time to give a little love to those little stories in your life. Share your love for your favorite shorts of any form. What is a short story or novella that doesn’t get the attention that it deserves? Recommend to readers what shorts you would recommend they start with. How about listing some short story anthologies based upon genres or authors?
Response to Novellas/Short Stores:
I love novellas! I try to read them any chance I get. I usually only read a few because they're part of a book trilogy/series. I'm just going to list some I read and enjoyed! The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas, Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi, In Time by Alexandra Bracken, and Roar and Liv by Veronica Rossi. Those are all YA (just different types of YA).
Yay Day 3 #ArmchairBEA! Please let me know in the comments YOUR Day 3 link and your thoughts. Have a great day everyone!
You know what, I did not even think to write about my experiences with contacting publishers and things like that. Now I feel silly! But that is okay because now I have a topic for a discussion post later on.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that the topic was kind of vague in that it left it open for there to be so many different types of posts. I think that is the beauty of this particular blogging event, though. It can be whatever we want it to be and we can interpret things however we want and no one will judge us for it. Okay, well maybe they will judge a little, but they will do so lovingly and constructively!

I totally agree!
DeleteYou're right, expanding your blog can take on so many different forms. I am constantly tweaking with little things. My side bar is never the same!
ReplyDeleteI think the blog should reflect the personality of the blogger. It's ok to expand your blog. You want to keep your readers actively engaged. http://allisonbruning.blogspot.com/2014/05/armchairbea-expanding-blogging-horizons.html
ReplyDeleteI love anthologies especially when they are a mix of my favorite authors
ReplyDeleteI love your banner, I hope you never redesign it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback! You're too sweet :)
DeleteExpanding your blog certainly does have different forms. I kind of feel that if you go beyond where you began, you are expanding. I have to agree with Wesly, your banner is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat response on expanding blogging, there are so many ways that people forget to include, anything can really be expanding :) I love it!
ReplyDeleteI never thought about including making friends all over the world, but that is definitely a way of expanding :D I did include talking to publishers, which I never expected to do when I started blogging.

I actually started making friends in late 2012 on Twitter before blogging. Yes, communicating to publishers and building a relationship is very important to your blogging life. Glad to help! :)
DeleteYou encompassed a lot in your expanding blogging horizons section, I did not think about a lot of those topics! Also, I'm not very good about reading novellas but will pick up short story compilations from time to time.
