Summary:
Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.
After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.  [goodreads]

My Thoughts:

I am more than overjoyed that I decided to pick up this book. I was in a "post apocalyptic" reading mood and IN THE AFTER fit the bill. I bought this about 5 months and I cannot believe it took this long to read it. I really enjoyed the writing, which kept me on the edge of my seat. IN THE AFTER is a thrilling page turner from start to finish.

Amy does whatever it takes to survive in her post apocalyptic world. These horrid creatures are eating away the human population, but Amy is able to survive. She even rescues a toddler, Baby, and doesn't mind the burden. Years after hiding in Amy's house, they are both saved and taken to New Hope. A new society that seems more than a dream, but there are truths and lies hidden beneath.

IN THE AFTER stirred up all my emotions and it was exhilarating to let it all out. I enjoyed Amy as the heroine, most of the time. I understood Amy and her choices throughout the book. There were some parts that angered me because all the anticipation was killing me. Especially the third part.

There was a definite cliff hanger, so I advise to be prepared and have the sequel at hand. I mostly imagined this book as a video game, so I was visualizing it realistically. The plot was well thought out and thrilling. But there were some characters/scenes that raged me. The stir of excitement after each chapter, is what kept me going.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would recommend it to anyone, no doubt. I could not keep track of time while reading IN THE AFTER. After each chapter, it left you gripped and electrified. Living in, IN THE AFTER, is a journey you wouldn't want to miss.

4/5 STARS
