Day 2: Armchair BEA 2014- Author & More than Words

created by nina of nina reads

Author Interaction
Let’s talk interacting with authors IRL (in real life) or online. This is your opportunity to talk about your favorite author readings that you have attended. Or, you can feature your favorite author fan moment (i.e., an author sent you a tweet or commented on your blog). Maybe you even want to share how your interactions have changed since becoming a blogger or share your own tips that you have learned along the way when interacting with authors as a blogger.

Response to Author Interaction:

I love talking about authors outside of their "book" life! You get to know more about them and it gets you inspired. I have never been to an author signing/reading. I KNOW I live in California and I have to go to at least 1. But no. I'm a little faraway from those type of things and transportation is hard to find. On Twitter, talking and meeting your favorite author is a surreal opportunity. Throughout my Twitter and Blogging life, I started to change (FOR THE BEST)! I used actual words other than (i.e OMGGGGG, FANGIRLING, LMAO, JKJK ILY). First impressions are some things to think about! Sure, you can squeal on your side of the end, but having an "image" and being appropriate at times is important. I know this is not fun, BEING A GROWNUP SUCKS, well heck do I know. I just act more mature online and that's how I build relationships with other bloggers and authors.

More Than Just Words
There are so many mediums that feature more than just words and enhance a story in a multitude of ways. Examples may include graphic novels and comics, audiobooks, or even multimedia novels. On this day, we will be talking about those books and formats that move beyond just the words and use other ways to experience a story. Which books stand out to you in these different formats?

Response to More Than Just Words:

I'm not very familiar in this type of stuff, but I do have some experience with them. I have just gotten into graphic novels/manga! The one that I'm reading is called "Saga". You should check it out! Sometimes one book or any other format can open up doors for you to similar things. I'm not the biggest audiobook fan, but I'd love to be. I guess it's just time. If I had more time on my hands, I could do more things.

Day 2 is going to be great! I would love to see the link to YOUR post and if you agree with my opinions above, including: Author Interaction. Have a great day!

  1. I totally had a comment about your blog post but now I'm all distracted by how much I like your header/banner. So pretty!

  2. Oh my word this is too funny:

    OMGGGGG, FANGIRLING, LMAO, JKJK ILY

Can't stop laughing cause you are right--I know I still get like that, just inside my head.

I too am starting to read more graphic novels....in particular I am going to seek out Patricia Brigg's Mercy Thompson in graphic novel. Happy ArmChairBEA!

  3. Yep being a grownup does suck sometimes. I do listen to audiobooks and mostly BECAUSE I don't have as much time as I'd like. It helps me multitask. But it all depends on the narrator. Hope you're having a great week!

    1. Yeah, I tried reading the audio for Game of Thrones but the narrator was NOT what I was hoping. He was acting out the voices and that was too much for me.

  4. I think interacting online with authors is great and maybe better than in person. In person is usually at an event and time is limited, but online the conversation can take place over days and weeks.

  5. Hallo, Hallo! :)

I am happily visiting via Team 4 of the #cheerREADERs! :) My route was overhauled earlier today, and it took me a bit to be able to visit you, but I am here now! I wanted to reply to your comments on how to act around actors and I must confess, I never considered myself a 'fangirl'. It might be because I understood the other side of the book - I have been creating stories for as long as I can remember, and although it took me a bit to realise I wanted to be a writer full-time, I think the seed of being a writer was already planted and taking root. The best thing to remember is that authors are just like you & I. They are down to earth, humble, and they love to talk to you about your everyday life!

I do appreciate all the lovely opportunities I am finding to interact with them, whether I am online or IRL. I am limited on events in my local area, but whenever I find one I can attend, I jump at the chance that is for sure! :) I am simply thankful that you wrote this post in case it will help other girls who might not realise that sometimes the 'hyper-active response' is not always the best way to go for a first impression! I applaud you for being honest & for sharing your own story! After all, we all have a story to tell!

Enjoy the authors you get to visit with next!
